Political Upgrade
UK Politics is broken, and has been for quite some time now. At least that’s the opinion of several commentators and a theme that’s becoming ever more popular in the mainstream media.
The first questions we’ll ask on this course are: Is it broken? How could we tell if it was and broken compared to what? This will involve taking a brief look at the history of UK democracy and tracking some of the more important ideas behind it.
We’ll then ask, if it is broken, then why? Who broke it and how? Then, perhaps more importantly: Where are we headed if we don’t come to terms with our broken politics? We live in a time when we can see almost on a daily basis what happens when democracy is undermined.
Having drawn on these lessons, we will be in a position to consider the last questions of this course, and perhaps the most important: What is the future outlook? Will we just muddle on through or do we need to consider more serious change?
